Introduction to the study of the European Union institutions
The aim of this first introductory section is to refresh your knowledge of European Union institutions. We will talk about the basic roles of the institutions and we will look at their function. The interdependence of the EU institutions will be pointed out.
Studying European institutions is not easy, as the EU is neither a country nor an international organisation, but we will look at the similarities between EU institutions and governing bodies of Member States to clarify this to you. We will also explore how the EU institutions transformed since the 1950s to be closer to the European peoples.
