Federalism, functionalism and transactionalism

The next sections focus on the theories of federalism, functionalism and transactionalism. These theories provide some of the bedrock for more modern theories and, to a certain extent, rather than being solely theoretical tools for analysis of the EU, they were (and are) an integral part of the EU integration process itself.
