European law

EU law is often the source of much confusion regarding the relative powers of the EU and member states. However, it is through the body of EU law that the European Union is able to exert the greatest amount of influence and governance over the European space. The next few sections will cover the main tenets of European law. It is not a comprehensive account, which would be beyond the scope of this unit. However, we will cover the main areas so that you are able to understand the effect EU law has over the EU both at national and sub-national levels.

We have already touched on certain aspects of EU law throughout this unit and in this section we will elaborate on some of the concepts that we have seen before.
