What is a UoP Student EU Observer? What does s/he do?
- UoP EU Observers attend UoP EU related lectures and other events beyond the taught lectures, in consultation with Dr Anna Syngellakis in SLAS & Dr Karen Heard-Laureote in SSHLS.
- If attendance involves travel, reasonable travel expenses will be covered.
- Attendance will be 1-3 times per teaching block, depending on what is happening.
- Details of events will be communicated to the UoP Student EU Observers via e-mail.
- UoP Student EU Observers decide between themselves who is going to which event and inform either Anna or Karen about their choice and the expected cost which must be authorised beforehand.
- UoP Student EU Observers communicate their activities and short comments via UoP European Studies Twitter, UoP European Studies on Facebook and on the UoP ES Blog.
- UoP Student EU Observers write a short report on the event attended: issues and questions raised, observations; reflection, critique, link to literature on the topic, as appropriate.
- Report will be published on the blog and possibly on the UoP post-graduate journal. Subject to editorial approval.
Expected learning and other outcomes for UoP Student EU Observers.
- Widening academic knowledge on the EU and related issues.
- Opportunities to network with speakers from and outside the UoP, with MEPs and representatives of the European institutions and others.
- Publicising attendance & experience from a student perspective on UoP European Studies Twitter, European Studies Blog and UoP European Studies Facebook page.
- An opportunity to publish work of a high standard in the Portsmouth Postgraduate Review.
- Enhancement of their CV with strong evidence of
- Extra-curricula interest and engagement with European Union related issues.
- Ability to write in a concise and effective manner.
- Competence in using social media for academic / professional purposes.
- Having a piece of academic work published (See above).
- Enrich their reference letter when applying for work.
